The Office of Corporate Planning & Strategic Projects provides support and guidance to
City teams and employees. Key responsibilities include project management support,
grant administration, modern workplace coordination, annual reporting, and policy
development.
The IMPACT Associate will report to the Assistant Director, Officer of Corporate Planning &
Strategic Projects. This role supports key initiatives that help City departments meet their
service goals and comply with regulations. The IMPACT Associate will be responsible for:
- Improving communication and sharing information about corporate initiatives.
- Organizing internal collaboration sessions along with training and development
to support project management skills and knowledge building. - Identifying, preparing, and supporting external grant applications.
- Tracking partnerships with post-secondary institutions.
- Supporting the administration of the City’s Modern Workplace program.
- Other duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will have experience in communications, research, policy
implementation and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will be well-organized
and a self-starter with a willingness to learn.

POSITION FUNCTION
As an IMPACT Initiative Associate hired under the City of Victoria’s Inclusive Municipal
Program for Advancing Careers and Training, you will be given meaningful and challenging
assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Associate
position, you will assist with projects within a specific City department, contribute to the
overall goals of the work unit, have job shadowing opportunities, and participate in
educational experiences.
KEY DUTIES
- Collaborate closely and actively participate in feedback sessions with a supervisor
to contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization’s operations. - Utilize tools and software platforms under the direct guidance of your supervisor.
- Participate actively in the development and enhancement of projects aligned with
the department’s strategic goals. - Provide valuable field and/or office support to support the successful execution of
assigned projects. - Collaborate with team members to facilitate shared learning and contribute to the
evaluation and implementation of innovative solutions. Maintain detailed records of
your work process, including any challenges encountered and problem-solving
approaches employed. - Collaborate with colleagues from different departments or teams on crossfunctional projects to gain a broader perspective and develop a well-rounded skill
set supporting your knowledge and success in a municipal career. - Attend and actively participate in educational activities that enhance your
knowledge and skills, aligning with IMPACT program objectives and the
department’s needs.
INDEPENDENCE
- Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.
- Problems are referred to supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Effort: Sit with arms unsupported while keyboarding. (occasional)
Mental Effort: Meet multiple deadlines. (occasional)
Visual/Auditory Effort: Focus on a variety of source data and computer for short periods. (occasional)
Work Environment: Office, may attend work sites. (occasional)

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
- Have language proficiency in English (equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6).
Experience:
- IMPACT Initiative Associates require at least 6 months of fundamental knowledge
and practical experience related to tasks and responsibilities similar to those
outlined in the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
