Position Summary: 

Due to strong growth, we are looking for an Accounting Supervisor to join our Accounting team! This role will be reporting to the Controller and based out of the Lower Mainland, BC.  This is a hybrid working opportunity with a blend of in-office and remote days. 

As the Accounting Supervisor, you will support the Controller by examining and analyzing all accounting records. You will be responsible for ensuring accuracy in data and reporting, and compliance with established accounting standards and procedures. One of the main objectives of your role as our Accounting Supervisor will be to prepare financial statements, establish, and maintain internal controls, and assist the Controller with month-end and year-end processes, among other duties. In addition to supporting the Controller you will also be leading our Accounts Receivable and Invoicing team in their day-to-day work and objectives.   

The ideal candidate will be able to excel in a fast paced and challenging environment, working accurately with considerable data, adjusting to changes, and communicating effectively with team members.  This position requires excellent communication, attention to detail, organization and documentation skills.  There is also the ability to work in a Hybrid work environment.   
 

Responsibilities:  

  • Examining and analyzing accounting and financial records, documents, and systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards, procedures, and internal controls 
  • Assisting with the external audit 
  • Providing recommendations to improve accounting and management practices within the company 
  • Developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting 
  • Providing leadership, training, and development to the accounting team 
  • Researching accounting issues where necessary for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles 
  • Responds to internal and external requests and provides support to clients and teams   
  • Communicate with key stakeholders regarding accounting related queries and updates  
  • Prepares financial statements to summarize and forecast the company’s financial status 
  • Assists with management of accounting, auditing, and budgeting within the organization 
  • Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances 
  • Ensures compliance with and prepares reports according to applicable government regulations 
  • Uses accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports 
  • Coordinates with and prepares reports for the Vice President of Finance and Sr. Leadership Team 
  • Manages, coaches and mentors their team 
  • Provides feedback and administers yearly annual reviews to their team 
  • Responsible for hiring decisions for their team  
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed

  • Solving complex accounting problems through the application of generally accepted accounting principles 
  • Critical thinking and, in turn, confident decision-making with the ability to implement internal policies and processes 
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software and systems 
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines 
  • Capable of interpreting and analyzing large volumes of financial data 
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written 
  • Organized team player who can successfully build relationships that foster cooperation within the team 
  • Detail focused and strong business acumen 
     

Qualifications & Educational Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field  
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting 
  • CPA designation or equivalent 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ leadership experience and supervising staff 
  • Experience working with Quick Books is considered an asset  
  • Experience working with online databases required  
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required 
  • 2+ years working at a similar level, ideally as an Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager would be an asset 
  • ERP implementation experience would be an asset
